This includes U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, who admitted during a press conference announcing the release of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines that until he was appointed to the position that oversees the USDA, he had never read the guidelines that dictate nutrition policy in the United States. Vilsack admitted that he didn?t think he ate poorly until then, and now he and his wife are following programs outlined on the USDA website. Vilsack's comments illustrate that the way Americans perceive good eating habits doesn't necessarily translate to a proper understanding of the importance of balanced eating and physical activity. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines released this week (yes, we?re also wondering why they're labeled 2010 and not 2011) take all of this into account.
